We lived in the country for 11 years before moving to town in March of 2007. We bought a house with plain white walls, an unfinished basement  and about 10 nail holes in the entire house. I spent the first  summer  painting and furnishing the house. Then we finished off the basement with a family room, game room, bar, son's room and bathroom.

The first thing we found at a thrift shop was an old dresser that I repurposed into an entertainment center in the family room.

We needed more storage in the kitchen so I found another old dresser. Removing  the four lower drawers and making  shelves instead makes a great place for pots and pan storage. The upper two drawers were left in place to store utensils and what nots. Rollers on it are perfect to make it a portable island when needed.

My most prized possession has to be my wine cabinet made from 6 solid wood shutters. They didn't even need to be painted. I left them the way they were: wine color on the outside and black on the inside. It goes great in my Tuscan style kitchen.

I found so many things here and there and brought them home to repurpose that my garage started filling up. I worked on things during the summer and finally started a Facebook page called VT's Wood & Wire to show others  what I had.

Our small town square has a Farmers' Market every Saturday morning in the summer. I decided to set up a booth there and had really good luck. I have been doing craft fairs for a couple years now. It's great to know that I saved so many things from the landfill and created beautiful pieces.

WHO IS BEHIND VT'S WOOD & WIRE?

My name is Vickie Tucker. I am a wife and mother of two kids and three furbabies. I work full time as a  nurse in a small mid-Missouri town and I love DIY. My husband used to get annoyed at my "collection" of things in the garage until he found that I was actually making some real money at repurposing and recycling other people's cast-offs.
